A motorized lawn care machine that helps to remove thatch, giving the grass roots room to breathe, stretch, and absorb nutrients. Thatch blocks water, air, and nutrients from reaching your grass’ roots, suffocating grass growth and promoting disease. Using a power rake can rejuvenate your lawn, especially after a rough Manitoba winter.
After removing thatch, it is recommended to water your lawn. Overseeding and a touch of fertilizer is also encouraged, to give your lawn a bit of extra help to achieve that rich green colour we all strive for.
Best used in early spring or early fall. In the spring, you’re helping your lawn “wake up” and promoting grass growth. Just be sure to wait until the ground has thawed and the grass is actively growing.
In fall, it’s a great preparation for overseeding or fertilizing your lawn. You’ll reduce compaction, break up dead grass, and give roots a better shot at absorbing nutrients before winter sets in.
Avoid power raking in extreme heat, and don’t go too deep or too often. Moderation is key with thatch removal.
